Key for Net = Information,

Do everything for readability :

  • No BIG chunks of info

No endless lines of information going from the left margin all the way to the right margin with long sentences, no indentations, no breaks no periods, in general a lot of blah blah that is the best way to turn your audience off and get them to click off the page and go to some other more interesting and better laid out site!

  • No "busy" backgrounds

  • Plenty of white space (character spacing)

  • No centered paragraph text

Once upon a time somebody thought is would be more "design" to center everything on a page.
It maybe true that it looks better but it reduces readability greatly.
The reason is quite simple : The eye scans from top to bottom and when the lines on the left margin all begin at different points the eye can't scan. It's "stop and go" slowing the reader down... making it frustrating... and very quickly they'll give up.
It's a debate as to whether sub-titles should be left aligned or centered.
I personally center headlines... but left align sub-titles

  • black on white...the best

Scripts designed for the web :

Verdana This page is in Verdana, sans-serif, wider, open
Georgia Small serifs, artistic but clean
Arial Narrower, but clean and neat, more formal
Times Roman Classic newspaper
  • Typography I

NO LINES OF FULL CAPITAL LETTERS
Script fonts in all capital letters

HERE'S A SCRIPT FONT IN ALL CAPS. AS YOU CAN SEE IT TOO IS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ. THE KEY IS TO MAKE YOUR INFORMATION EASY TO DIGEST AND A GOOD PART OF THAT IS IN THE WAY IT IS PRESENTED

  • The navigator uses fonts IN the visitors computer... so, don't choose something "outlandish" because the navigator will substitute an available font anyway.
